Richard Mixx

Position: Battalion Chief:  B Shift

Chief Mixx is a long-time resident of East Montgomery County and a native Texan. He began volunteering with Porter Volunteer Fire Department in 2001, and after for four years, he realized his passion was for serving others. He left a career in the Oil & Gas industry to pursue a career in the Fire & EMS service. As Porter Fire grew, there was a need for full-time paid employees and Chief Mixx took a leap of faith and joined the department as a Lieutenant on C Shift. In 2007, he was promoted to Captain and again in 2019 to the B Shift Battalion Chief.

Chief Mixx holds the certification of EMT-Advanced as well as numerous certifications from TCFP, has attended the National Fire Academy and is a graduate of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association-Fire Chiefs Academy.

On a personal level, Chief Mixx has a passion to serve and support youth in agriculture; he has been a volunteer with The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo since 1996. He is married, has 3 children and 6 grandchildren. He also enjoys spending time with his family, reading scripture, hunting and outdoor activities.
