THE PORTER FIRE DEPARTMENT
Is in southeast Montgomery County, Texas located northeast of Houston, near Interstate 69 and the Grand Parkway. MCESD6 was originally the Porter Volunteer Fire Department founded in 1962. The department is a fully paid all-hazard fire department currently with 75 employees of which 66 are assigned to suppression working in four (4) heavy companies out of three fire stations. Suppression works a 48/96 schedule. Currently two additional fire stations are in development with additional department growth planned. https://www.porterfire.com/
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
• Directs the operation of emergency service delivery.
• Reviews fire reports and payroll entries of station officers on a daily basis to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Responds to, operates in, or commands emergency incidents as required and/or assigned.
• Assures appropriate notifications are made as necessary to chief and deputy chief. Coordinates post-incident operations as needed, including post-incident analysis.
• Coordinates training effort of the department, including all aspects of emergency response, disaster planning and emergency management, fire prevention and education, and leadership and management.
• Supervises and coordinates the tactical methodology used in resolving emergencies and other situations.
• Assists in preparation, review, and defense of the department budget.
• Provides oversight and coordination of scheduling, selection, evaluation, and deployment of the department personnel; resolves difficult personnel issues. Provides supervision to shift officers as assigned.
• Coordinates fire prevention inspection, hydrant inspection and pre-plan activities of the department.
• Maintains a working knowledge of fire codes, and ordinances.
• Assists in formulating long and short-range plans and procedures, SOG's and updates as needed.
• Coordinates departmental activities with other departments and agencies such as, but not limited to, inter-local agreements with city, county, state, and federal governments; coordination with other city departments; and presentations to civic groups and schools.
• Performs inspections of all facilities, equipment, and personnel.
• Ensures compliance of Montgomery County ESD # 6 rules, regulations, and policies.
• Performs related duties as required.
• All other duties assigned by the Fire Chief.
SELECTION GUIDELINES: (May include the following)
1. Receipt of formal application; review of application; driving record and background verification; oral interview; final selection; recommendation for approval by Montgomery County ESD6 Board of Commissioners; pre-employment physical with drug screening.

ELIGIBLITY
External Candidate - the department will post for outside interest for a 21-day period. Candidates with interest must prove lateral credentials for internal eligibility.
• Lateral credentials are to be reviewed by professional development for approval
• External candidates must have 4 years of experience with lateral credentials
• Certifications missing from the requirement may be obtained within 24 months of promotion/appointment.
• Captain/Senior Captain with 4 years in rank.
Internal Candidate - the department will post for internal interest for a 21-day period for those personnel that have been promoted into the subordinate rank, however, have not met the total required time for the promotion under eligibility option 1.
• For those people that have not met time in their current rank to promote, a combination of their current rank plus the previous rank must equal 5 years of experience and have privileges of riding higher class in their current rank.
• Certifications missing from the requirement may be obtained within 24 months of promotion/appointment.

• HazMat Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician
• TCFP Instructor I
• TCFP - D.O.A & D.O.P
• TCFP- Fire Officer I
• TCFP Intermediate FF
• NIMS 300 & 400
• TCFP Safety Officer
• TCFP Fire Officer II
• NFA Command & Control/Decision Making at Multiple incidents or Blue Card Incident Course. (NOTE: Blue Card phase out 08/01/25 and is replaced by Officer Development II Academy at this point as its own line item in addition to the NFA C&C course)
• TCFP Advanced Firefighter
• TCFP Fire Officer III & IV or successful completion of Texas Fire Chief Association Chief’s Academy
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Starting Salary - $101,914.79 – FY24/25
Up to $ 1000 towards Health, Dental and Vision plan
